The Gotzee!™ Team
Gotzee!TM is a reflection of our pandemic era learning and the result of an amazing team of teachers, a graphic designer, and a small town production studio. What common thread(s) do you notice amongst this dynamic team?
Reading and playing every center.
Reading and playing every center and each stage, we absorbed the work through the triple lens of classroom management, student engagement and math standards. As a result of this passion project, Gotzee!™ teacher pages have been written as clear guides and organized to capture anticipated and observed skills. Materials have been streamlined while maintaining the integrity of the game. Student facing pages provide clear goals and instructions for students as well as graphic organizers to capture student thinking. Patricia is a 1994 graduate of Virginia Tech with a Masters of Education from George Mason University…
Written with the youngest readers in mind.
Written with the youngest readers in mind, each student facing sheet has been edited and revised by master teachers including a reading specialist. We use Open-Dyslexic font and grade-level sight words to ensure access to all. Word banks and math vocabulary are highlighted and provided for each center and stage. Nancy is a VA Tech Hokie with a Masters of Education from UVA…
Edited and reviewed for clarity and consistency.
Ensuring ease of use, consistency and clarity, each page of Gotzee!™ has been reviewed and edited by an experienced elementary teacher. We wanted to know, can a Gotzee!™ center kit be opened and ready to play with minimal prep and no IM™ specific content knowledge? The answer is YES! Our teachers tested this out for us! Mary taught in 1st grade classrooms across the East Coast and Midwest. Jen taught in Colorado and is certified as both an IMCF and Math Recovery Specialist...
Colorful, Child-Friendly and Engaging
The colorful, fun and dynamic brand design is crafted by my daughter who has spent a lifetime getting lost in her art. Customized action-icons allow multiple means of representation. Child-friendly, colorful, engaging and easy to follow game cards and graphic organizers help students organize ideas, show their thinking and support with executive functioning. Carter Lee studied visual media and fashion at Virginia Tech and is now living in Austin, Texas…
A lifelong learner and person of many talents.
The marketing and web is created by a master music educator, musician, and brand marketer who can be spotted on his elementary campus with a burgundy and orange mohawk! Dave is the founder of Advantage Design Solutions, Vienna Jammers and also an elementary teacher. Dave grew up in Blacksburg, VA and graduated as a Hokie from his hometown…
Gotzee!™ friends and collaborators.
We have been working and collaborating with IM™ K-5 teachers rolling out the Beta and V1.0 curriculum. The thoughts, ideas and inspiration from classroom teachers and facilitators is sprinkled throughout the pages of Gotzee!™ Center Kits. Check out Maureen's blog about Centers: Joyful and Meaningful Math Practice!
Grade 1 teachers and Math Coach, Cara, provided feedback along the way.
Initial versions of Gotzee!TM were tried and tested by educators and students at Van Ness Elementary in DC, providing invaluable feedback.
Packaging it all up and bringing Gotzee!™ to life.
Bringing it all to life and packaging it all with a shiny bow is the local print artistes at Pixel Print and Post in St. Michaels, Maryland. Rosemary, Robin and Denny along with the entire PPP team have brought their print expertise to this passion project. They have been practicing their math skills too! Let me tell you, there is a lot of math in paper production and a case study ripe for a future Gotzee!™ math puzzler.
